asterisk Truncation  is a useful strategy when a search needs to be broadened or if you are unsure of a word's spelling.

A truncated word ends in an asterisk. The asterisk acts as a 'wild card' for letters at the end of the word.

For instance, bank * would return results that had words that began with the letters "bank", such as:

bank
banking
bankers
banknotes
banked
bankcard
bankroll
bankbook
etc.
